How Gardeners Can Save The World
August 19 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pmFree
A Bee City USA Speaker Series Event
One in three bites of food we eat is thanks to a pollinator, and 90% of wild plant species rely on pollinators to reproduce. But the United Nations reports that 40% of pollinators are at risk of extinction. Join Founder/Director of Bee City USA®, Phyllis Stiles, and learn how Bee City USA can mobilize your community for pollinator conservation and how gardeners can transform ornamental landscapes to help reverse pollinator declines.
Founder/director of Bee City USA® & Bee Campus USA, Phyllis Stiles was named United States Pollinator Advocate of the Year for 2015 by the North American Pollinator Protection Campaign. To date, more than 100 cities and campuses have been certified. Stiles’ career ranges from natural resource and farmland protection to civic leadership development from the Blue Ridge Mountains to West Africa to the Mississippi Delta. Since 2011, she has dedicated herself to learning all she can about the pollinators that sustain our planet.
This event is part of Homestead’s 2018 Bee City USA Speaker Series! Learn more about how Anne Arundel County, City of Annapolis and the Town of Highland Beach have come together to raise awareness of the important role pollinators play in the local, regional and global ecosystem.
