Chicken Parenting: A Primer for First-Timers Severna Park

Apr 7th, 2018 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Free

Join Homestead’s own Alison James, for a discussion on what to expect when you’re expecting – chicks, that is!

She will cover enrichment, safety and communication (yes, you can communicate with chickens!) to give you a great foundation on which to embark into your new role as a chicken parent.

alison james headshotGrowing up, Alison’s family kept several chickens of all breeds, a pastime she has continued into adulthood. For over 25 years, Alison has enjoyed raising a flock of her own. Although she currently has 9 hens and 1 rooster of various breeds, her favorites are the Buff Orpington and Blue Andalusian. Alison’s chickens play a role in her path towards sustainability. She is learning how to recycle and reuse what is on her property, including chicken manure which will be used to fertilize her garden this spring.
