Paperwhites are a favorite for easy, indoor forcing. Whether for holiday decorating, a hostess gift or for winter indoor flowers, this daffodil is so easy to grow indoors. Planted in a pot with soil or on a base of gravel in a dish or vase, their white flowers last for up to 4 weeks with a sweet, musky scent. By planting a new batch every 2-3 weeks you can have flowers blooming all winter from late fall to spring.
Paperwhites are an easy bulb to force for indoor color, beginning to bloom within 4-6 weeks after planting. Grow in as cool a location as possible with as much sun as possible. Floppy Paperwhites in the past? Try growing them in a vase that is at least 6″ wide and 6- 8″ tall. This will keep the leaves and blossoms upright creating a living bouquet. Extra bulbs for future plantings should be kept at room temperature in a dark location.
Paperwhites are a great way to introduce children to flowers and gardening. They make beautiful, inexpensive teacher or hostess gifts for the holidays that you or your child can grow and give.
