Ornament 3We provide unique ornaments every year because we know that our customers deserve something special to commemorate the holiday season. Our annual tradition is commissioning a unique, handcrafted ornament inspired by familiar Annapolis scenes. In the past, we’ve featured everything from pubs and delis to historical buildings. This year, we selected a broad landscape view of downtown Annapolis and its iconic City Dock, affectionately known to local boaters as “Ego Alley. We selected an artist who uses a rare technique called bent brush art. Bent brush techniques are perfect for creating colorful, exquisite ornaments and once used to create gifts for Chinese aristocracy.Ornament 4

After we select a scene, an artist creates a design. Next, artisans paint the design onto hand-blown glass ornaments. They begin by painting the scene’s outline on the inside of each ornament and then carefully fill in the colors with thousands of brushstrokes. The result is a gorgeous, distinctive piece featuring City Dock, the heart of historic Annapolis. The scene includes the reflective water of Annapolis harbor, docks, boats, buildings, yellow-leaved autumn trees, an American flag fluttering in the wind, and a puffy cloud-filled blue sky. It evokes memories of relaxing days by the water. The scene is labeled with “Annapolis Harbor, MD.” These limited-edition ornaments are created exclusively for Homestead Gardens customers. Each one is packaged in a beautiful box perfect for storage or a thoughtful gift.
