General Manager - Davidsonville

Homestead Gardens is looking for a full-time retail store General Manager.  If you are a strong retail manager with years of success in a high volume business who is skilled at managing, motivating and empowering Associates in a fast-paced environment, we would like to hear from you.

The ideal candidate ensures results by building a team, mentoring, delegating, giving feedback, planning, monitoring and reinforcing performance standards. They achieve financial objectives by increasing sales, controlling expenditures, executing loss prevention and safety protocols and initiating corrective actions. They identify current and future customer trends by establishing rapport, maintaining inventories, evaluating merchandising strategies, evaluating sales promotions and customer events. 

Required Experience:  

  • Retail Store Management – Minimum Experience:  5 years

Warehouse Receiving Associate - Davidsonville

The Warehouse Receiving Associate will be responsible for receiving all goods purchased by the Garden Supply/Hardgoods Manager and the Outdoor Living Manager, and to coordinate the document flow of purchase orders, packing slips and/or bill of lading with management and/or accounting, working in a team environment with other Retail locations and Departments.  To verify the correctness of SKU numbers and prices both in computer records and on merchandise received and/or displayed for retail sale.  To keep merchandise Buyers aware of all known inventory stock-outs, shrinkage, waste, or other problems with the merchandise inventory that is normally received by the Receiving Clerk.  To store, or arrange for storage, of all of the merchandise inventory in a safe, organized, and appropriate (to the inventory item) manner.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Verify counts, sizes, weights, and saleable condition of inventory as it is received.
  • Correctly match Homestead Gardens POs with vendor packing slips, or bills of lading or tariff.
  • Properly price inventory with the correct SKU and price.
  • Safely operate equipment such as conventional pallet jacks, powered pallet jacks, skid steers, forklifts, wheeled ladders and reach trucks.
  • Be available to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays or special events.

Department Manager - Outdoor Living - Davidsonville

Homestead Gardens is looking for a Department Manager for our Outdoor Living Department.  The Manager will be responsible for overall management of the department, maximizing sales, maintaining product, and working in a team environment alongside other departments.

The Outdoor Living Department Manager will:

  • Actively manage supervision, scheduling, training, evaluations, mentoring, counseling and goal setting of department personnel.  This will include interpreting and communicating company rules, policies and procedures.
  • Analyze selling trends in the department to decide what items to sell as well as work closely with the Category Manager to decide what products to bring into the store and how they will be displayed.
  • Monitor and help visual merchandising and overall quality of the displays of the sales area.
  • Coordinate customers’ requests for deliveries with the Delivery Department.  Follow up with the guests to ensure their total satisfaction.
  • Work with the Marketing team on signage requests as well as provide input on advertising promotions and workshops.
  • Develop and administer departmental budget as well as develop a pricing structure.
  • Responsible for all tasks related to opening and closing the retail store according to schedule.

The ideal candidate will have management and supervisory experience in a retail environment, preferably in outdoor living, decor or homestyles.  Excellent customer service, team building skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends is required for this role.

Outdoor/Indoor Decorator - Davidsonville

Homestead Gardens is seeking a motivated individual to join our Davidsonville, MD Team to assist with outdoor merchandising and facility presentation.  This position requires a flexible schedule that includes some evening and weekend availability.  Responsibilities include design and installation of outside displays, decorating grounds and facilities with seasonal decor, supporting retail team with inspirational displays, seasonal themes and general facility presentation.

Merchandising Support Associate - Davidsonville

Homestead Gardens is now recruiting for a full-time Merchandising Support Associate in the Deco/Patio/Homestyles Department.   This position provides merchandising support for the Department Manager and the Visual Merchandising Team including:  assembly and merchandising of patio furniture; overseeing merchandising and setup of pottery and fountain displays; maintaining standards of housekeeping within the Department; willingness to operate a forklift and all equipment in a safe manner and per Company policies and procedures; monitoring and maintaining inventory to ensure a safe and pleasing shopping environment and minimize shrink; and communicating clearly and pleasantly with customers and team members.  Must be available to work some evenings and weekends as needed.

Bulk Loader - Davidsonville

Homestead Gardens has an immediate opening for a Bulk Loader at our Davidsonville retail store.  The Bulk Loader uses a front-end loader to move products to and from the Warehouse to the Store, to the load line and moves product into trucks and vehicles.   This individual must be over 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.  You must be available to work a flexible schedule, including some weekends and evenings. Custodian - Davidsonville

Homestead Gardens has an immediate opening for a Custodian/Janitor who will be responsible for keeping the facilities clean at all times. Responsibilities include vacuuming, cleaning restroom facilities, mopping, trash removal — keeping our facility spotless and in tip-top condition. This candidate must be dependable and willing and able to perform the physical aspects of this job, which includes prolonged standing and lifting items up to 50 lbs. Hours are currently 7 a.m.-4:00 p.m., five days a week, including weekends.

CDL A Driver/Delivery Drivers - Davidsonville

Homestead Garden is hiring a full-time CDL A Driver.  Driver must be 21 years of age and able to comply with all CDL requirements, including Medical Examiner’s Certificate. This position includes manual labor (loading and unloading trucks). Applicant must be reliable and have an insurable driving record.  This position at busy times includes some weekends.

Facilities Maintenance Crew Member - Davidsonville

Homestead Gardens has an immediate opening for a full-time Facilities Maintenance Crew Member. Previous experience and/or knowledge of repair and maintenance of irrigation equipment and pumping stations, pipe and control systems repair related to irrigation, greenhouse heating systems, minor electrical systems and plumbing skills is preferred. This position does require physical labor.

Nursery Production Support - Horticultural Supply Division

This full-time position is in our Nursery Production Department at Homestead’s Horticultural Supply Division.  This individual will work with a small team to ensure the high-quality standards of our container nursery stock are met.

Description:

  • prune shrubs and trees
  • sweep and clean plant debris from production areas
  • pull, load, and tag plant orders on a weekly basis
  • monitor irrigation of nursery stock
  • pot up new nursery stock

Requirements:

  • able to lift 50 lbs.
  • able to work outdoors in inclement weather of all seasons
  • able to be on your feet for 8 hours a day
  • able to take direction and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • able to adhere to safety protocols

This position requires performing all aspects of what is required to produce healthy, optimal plants. This is a great opportunity for an individual who is interested in growing plants and/or the horticulture industry in general. As it is a small team, you must be willing to work hard and efficiently alongside others. Ability to speak Spanish is preferred.  Must be available to work on Saturday during the busy season.

Outside Sales - Horticultural Supply Division

Homestead Gardens has an immediate opening for a full-time Outside Sales Associate who will assist our wholesale customers at our Horticultural Supply Division.  Must be knowledgeable of plant material and be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. This position requires working outdoors in all types of weather. Applicant must have excellent customer service skills and be able to work a flexible schedule during peak seasons.

Landscape Design/Sales - Landscape Division

This position ensures the creation, development and implementation of landscape designs to meet the specific needs and requests of the Landscape Division customers. Designs, sells and manages the installation of landscape projects from lead generation to completion. Must produce quality designs which generate sales and in return, profits. Applicant must have five (5) years experience in design and sales. Ability to do hand renderings or CAD is a must. Must have knowledge of current construction best practices. C.P.H. is preferred.

Landscape Foreman - Landscape Division

Homestead Gardens has an immediate job opportunity for an experienced Landscape Foreman with expertise in performing high-quality landscaping and hardscaping jobs, providing excellent quality work and excellent customer service.  Applicant must have three to five (3-5) years experience in Landscaping and Hardscaping, crew supervision, a valid driver’s license, LCA certification is preferred and bilingual Spanish and English is preferred.

Landscape Installation - Landscape Division

Ensure the efficient installation of landscape designs.  Supervise, train and delegate responsibilities and tasks to crews.  Install exterior landscape projects (including plants, maintenance and construction) in an efficient manner reflecting Homestead Gardens’ quality and standards.  Three to five (3-5) years experience in landscape installation, LCA certified preferred. Bilingual Spanish and English preferred. Recruiting supervisors and crew members.

Landscape Maintenance Sales - Landscape Division

Create, develop and implement landscape maintenance plans to meet the specific needs and request of the Landscape Division customer.  Estimate, sell and manage the installation of maintenance projects from initial consultation to completion. Produce quality sales, both residential and commercial.  Position must develop new customer base obtaining leads from departmental calls, existing clients and solicit new leads from outside sources. LCA certification preferred.  Three to five (3-5) years sales experience preferred.

This full-time position is in our Landscape Division and is responsible for the needs assessment and application of pesticides, fertilizers and other chemicals necessary to maintain a healthy landscape.  MDA certification is preferred.  Must have three-five (3-5) years experience.
