Homestead Garden is hiring a full-time CDL A Driver.  Driver must be 21 years of age and able to comply with all CDL requirements, including Medical Examiner’s Certificate. This position includes manual labor (loading and unloading trucks). Applicant must be reliable and have an insurable driving record.  This position at busy times includes some weekends.

Warehouse Receiving Associate

We are currently in need of part-time Receiving Associates.  This role will be responsible for receiving all goods purchased by various departments and to coordinate the document flow of purchase orders, packing slips and/or bill of lading with management and/or accounting.  This position will be working in a team environment with other retail locations and departments.

  • Verify counts, sizes, weights, and saleable condition of inventory as it is received.
  • Correctly match Homestead Gardens POs with vendor packing slips, or bills of lading or tariff.
  • Verify the correctness of SKU numbers and prices both in computer records and on merchandise received and/or displayed for retail sale.
  • Properly price inventory with the correct SKU and price.
  • Be available to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays or special events.
  • Some work outdoors is required.

The ability to safely operate equipment such as conventional pallet jacks, powered pallet jacks, skid steers, forklifts, wheeled ladders and reach trucks would be a bonus skill set in this role.

Perennials Buyer

Homestead Gardens, the largest enclosed garden center in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and one of the country’s leading garden centers, has a job opportunity for an experienced Perennials Buyer.  This full-time position is responsible for planning, purchasing and ensuring availability of all perennials and seasonal bulbs for our retail locations, while monitoring and managing inventory control for the Perennials Sales.

Essential Duties:

  • Full responsibility as a Perennials Category Manager (Buyer) for the retail stores, wholesale and production facilities, including traveling to industry trade shows, growers, garden centers and other sources to select and purchase top quality Perennials and seasonal bulbs, and other related products as approved.  
  • Analyze selling trends and develop strategies and product assortment in the Department to decide what items to sell.  
  • Review inventory levels regularly and make adjustments in pricing as needed to sell through seasonal products in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate merchandising and pricing strategies with the Nursery/Perennials Manager.  Also apprise of all shipping and special orders.  
  • Oversee the delivery of material and directs the placement of plant material on the sales floor, while working with the Nursery/Perennials Manager.
  • Develops and administers Perennials sales budget. 
  • Assist with merchandising the Perennials sales area and developing marketing programs, advertising, promotions and workshops with the aid of the Marketing Department. 
  • Apply acquired knowledge to enhance the products sold in Perennials. 
  • Must possess excellent knowledge of perennials and seasonal bulbs, including the ability to identify and buy perennials and seasonal bulbs related to their growth and sales.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to create and maintain good vendor relationships.
  • Plant care knowledge and all aspects of perennials plant material upkeep.
  • Experience in budgetary management, developing and meeting annual sales goals.

Skills:

  • Attention to detail with the ability to think creatively and operate with some flexibility. 
  • Good computer/technology skills, with a willingness to grow.
  • Great customer service skills and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as a leader and a member of the team.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules during busy periods and availability to travel to industry-related events as required.  

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in an Agricultural discipline or minimum of three-five years equivalent work experience in a retail garden center or horticultural environment preferred.

Outdoor Living Department Manager

Homestead Gardens is looking for a Department Manager for our Outdoor Living Department. The Department Manager will be responsible for overall management of the department, maximizing sales, maintaining product, and working in a team environment alongside other departments.

The Outdoor Living Department Manager will...

  • Actively manage supervision, scheduling, training, evaluations, mentoring, counseling, and goal setting, of department personnel. This will include interpreting and communicating company rules policies and procedures.
  • Analyze selling trends in the department to decide what items to sell as well as work closely with the Category Manager to decide what products to bring in to the store and how they will be displayed.
  • Monitor and help visual merchandising and overall quality of the displays of the sales area.
  • Coordinate customers' requests for deliveries with the Delivery Department. Follow up with the guests to ensure their total satisfaction.
  • Work with the Marketing team on signage requests as well as provide input on advertising, promotions and workshops.
  • Develop and administer departmental budget as well as develop a pricing structure.
  • Responsible for all tasks related to opening and closing the retail store according to schedule.
  • The ideal candidate will have management and supervisory experience in a retail environment, preferably in outdoor living, decor or homestyles. Excellent customer service, team building skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends is required for this role.

Landscape Maintenance Sales - Landscape Division

Homestead Gardens is recognized as one of the most progressive green industry businesses in the United States and is committed to excellence in every phase of its operation.  As a retail garden center, it was an easy transition to start fulfilling our customer’s desires to take our service to the next level.  In 1980 our landscape division was born with one truck and a couple men for installation. We have since grown into a full-scale design, build and maintenance division and we are currently looking to add a Landscape Maintenance Sales person.

The Landscape Maintenance Sales person will:

  • Create, develop and implement landscape maintenance plans to meet the specific needs and requests of the Landscape Division customer.
  • Estimate, sell and manage the installation of maintenance projects from initial consultation to completion. 
  • Produce quality sales, both residential and commercial.  
  • Develop new customer base obtaining leads from departmental calls, existing clients and solicit new leads from outside sources. 

LCA certification preferred.  Three to five (3-5) years sales experience preferred.
