Nursery/Perennials Department Manager

Homestead Gardens is seeking an experienced, talented and dedicated individual to manage the Nursery/Perennials Department at the Davidsonville retail garden center.  Do you enjoy working with customers and sharing your knowledge to assist in their selection of the right tree, shrub or plant for their unique site?  At Homestead Gardens the customer is ALWAYS #1.    

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ensure excellent customer interaction and satisfaction, responding quickly to their needs in a friendly and personal manner.
  • Manage daily operations of the Nursery/Perennials Department and its staff, including preparation of work schedules, mentoring and setting goals.  
  • Supervise and monitor overall quality control and maintenance.
  • Oversee pruning, fertilization, watering, insect and disease prevention and weed control of the Nursery/Perennials retail sales yard and surrounding display plantings.
  • Work closely with the Nursery Category Manager and the Perennials Category Manager monitoring inventory and ensuring that the floor is adequately stocked and replenished.
  • Oversee the receiving aspects of the plants and products and directs the placement of plant material in the sales yard.    
  • Work closely with the respective Category Manager to develop and monitor department’s sales and product margin management through mark downs and adjustments.    
  • Work closely with General Manager and CFO to develop department’s payroll budget.
  • Attend weekly Retail Team meetings.
  • Open and close the Store as required.
  • Stay abreast of current industry trends by reading industry-related publications, visiting other garden centers and attending trade shows.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must possess excellent customer service and sales skills.
  • Strong horticultural knowledge of trees, shrubs and perennials.  
  • Good management, organizational and computer/technology skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as a leader and a member of the team.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some weekends during busy periods and to travel to industry-related events. 

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in an Agricultural discipline and/or minimum of three-five years equivalent work experience in a retail garden center or horticultural environment are required.

Annuals/Greenhouse (Houseplants) Department Manager

Homestead Gardens is seeking an experienced, talented and dedicated individual to manage the Annuals/Greenhouse (Houseplants) Department at the Davidsonville retail garden center.  Do you enjoy working with customers and sharing your knowledge to assist in their selection of just the right plant for their unique space?  At Homestead Gardens the customer is ALWAYS #1.

Landscape Division Crew Leader/Maintenance Foreman

Homestead Gardens has an immediate job opportunity for an experienced Landscape Crew Leader/Maintenance Foreman to be responsible for leading, motivating and overseeing landscape crews on commercial and residential projects.  This position requires at least three years experience as a crew leader, producing high-quality projects that are completed in a timely manner, to the customer’s full satisfaction.  Great leadership and customer service skills are a must.

Garden Supply Sales Associate

Outside Sales Associates/Nursery

Homestead Gardens is seeking part-time outside Sales Associates in our Nursery Department. Pet Department - All Positions

Landscape Division Design Sales Associate

Homestead Gardens is seeking a full time Design Sales Associate experienced in landscape design and sales for residential and commercial clients. We offer a broad range of landscape design/build and maintenance services. Small Engine Mechanic

Homestead Gardens has a full-time position available immediately for a small engine mechanic. This individual will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of the Company’s small engine equipment (i.e. blowers, trimmers, sod cutters, chain saws, weed eaters, etc.)  Applicant must have at least three years experience and be very proficient in this craft.
